Clemson 88, Elon 78

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Jamar McKnight scored 23 points to lead Clemson to an 88-78 win against Elon on Saturday afternoon.

Clemson (7-3) turned the ball over 24 times, but made up for it by shooting 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field.

Edward Scott scored 21 points and had 11 assists for the Tigers. Tony Stockman added 19 points and Ray Henderson scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds for Clemson.

Elon (4-6) led for most of the first half and was ahead 63-60 with 12:55 to go. But the Phoenix wouldn't score another basket for the next six minutes.

Ross Sims led Elon with 21 points on 5-for-8 shooting on 3-pointers. David Hall had 16 points and Quinton McCleod added 14 points. Elon shot 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) from behind the arc for the game.

But the more impressive numbers came from the Tigers, who were shooting 25 percent behind the arc coming into Saturday's game

McKnight led the charge in the first half hitting 4-for-6 on 3-pointers. Stockman was 4-for-10 and Scott was 2-for-5 for the game. The Tigers shot a combined 10-for-23 (43.5 percent) from 3-point range.

With Clemson down by one, Scott's back-to-back 3-pointers put the Tigers up 70-65 with 6:15 left. Clemson stretched the lead to seven with 3:12 to go before the defense took over.

Scott miss a free throw, but Tomas Nagys grabbed the loose ball. He hit the put back and was fouled to put Clemson up 79-71. Nagys then missed his free throw, but Henderson grabbed the offensive board and was fouled. Henderson hit the first foul shot, but missed the second. McKnight grabbed the Tigers' third offensive rebound of the possession but couldn't score.

Clemson outrebounded Elon 44-34.
